artfight's an art trading game that happens in july, but u already know that.

the moment i saw this chara's palette i knew i had to draw her, goodness gracious.

this was intended to be a simple warmup for the arts to come but i literally made this one drawing and then collapsed. i was rusty as FUCK brah. i had not made a full illust since april i did NAWT know what i was doing.

frustratingly, i had very specifically planned for AF to be the time i lock in and churn out as many fully-rendered illustrations as possible as samples for future commissions. but this would not pan out very well.

ISTG it was NOT just me either. i kid you not EVERY single artist friend and mutual of mine all somehow had artblock this season??? something was in the air this july and i fell off big time. atp i knew i had to abandon my churning-out-full-illusts plan, but then what style to actually draw in? painting didn't feel good to me but whenever i did my lasso-tool lineless stuff, it for some reason felt way too simplistic compared to what i usually made with it. so. new plan: i will use this AF to get out of artblock, doesn't matter what i draw as long as i draw. and this was done... to mixed results.

dude i am in love with this character design aaa!! i wanted to draw him with his partner so bad but i couldnt come up w any poses. maybe next year

continuing the same trend as the previous year, i am once again winging complicated poses with no reference. what would you even call this one. 'person jumping, body twisted to the slide, head tilted slightly back, left arm bent and open palm outstretched.' i was about to type an argument about how there's no google results for allthat, but i quite literally as i am writing this have came to the realization that i can just photobash my own refs. i cant keep doing this bro. i draw without thinking and then i scratch my head and ponder why it looks slightly off every time. hm i wonder why. ackkk i seriously want to draw this character again. glazing this design so hard, i feel like i didn't do it justice;;

told myself i didnt wanna prioritize revenges this season but here i am doing missed revenges for previous years lol... this ones really rough, i wanted to mess w a few brushes and eventually render a painting, but the more i layered things on it the more i just couldn't see it, so i left it at that. think the rough look gives a unique kind of mood anyhow.

another missed revenge for a previous year, i tried really hard w this one, and by that i mean i *actually* used a reference lol. it ended up cute

the red background trips me up a bit. i tried a bunch of other colors but none of them fit the vibe. i waned smthn grungy, this is the closest i could get altho a part of it feels unbalanced imo.

this one also had one billion revisions because i messed up her design and had to retouch the drawing 😭

submitted this one too early, i ended up re-editing it quite a bit after the fact. i also really love this one. need to do more character interaction stuff next artfight, this was a blast to draw.

couldnt resist drawing a minecraft oc ackkkkk. however, i did try to paint and got shot one billion times. the sharpness is also cranked up so high because the overlays i put on it made it BLURRY for some reason???? help

found out last minute that canon characters actually weren't allowed to be included in attacks. however there is an exception if they are an AU. and AU is very broadly defined...... i havent been axed for this one, so............

oof. this one's just a doodle, i feel so strangely abt this one. it looks oK in some parts if u zoom in, but as a full scene there's a lot that's missing. maybe it's just cos it's so cartoony, dunno.

concluding thoughts

ok yup this was everything i did for artfight. as usual i cherish every single attack i got this season, it's always an honor to have my sillies drawn! ^-^ i was so distressed i didn't have the willpower to revenge them all, esp since i hyped myself so much last year and in the months leading up to the event.... "perpetual motion machine" my ass. guh

learned the very hard way that you cannot force your way out of artblock u will just burn urself out and create mid lol. this sad state does not stay for long thou. sacher from september is typing this and telling you to look forward to the september batch.
